RAT CAGE - Savage Visions LP
Zoom image

Yorkshire's most Honorable Master of Mangel brings to bear upon us the sophomore RAT CAGE full-length, an anxiety-compounding white-knuckle ride through the nauseating experience commonly known as trying to get by. On SAVAGE VISIONS, listeners are exposed to the maniacal cries of the critically-minded individual pushed to the absolute brink, copping rapid fire tidings of woe belted out by an unhinged unit who has finally ceased to give a fuck. Here we find Bryan of Sheffield, defiant and desperate on what is by far the most sinister, claustrophobic, reckless and dynamic release in the RAT CAGE catalogue to date. Though it may be full of huge sing-along-moments and loaded with surprises, SAVAGE VISIONS is no party, because there's nothing to celebrate. The boisterous resilience and boozy joy of previous works has vanished. With the rule book shattering the window of the '82nd floor, SAVAGE VISIONS lashes out at times towards the not-too-distant sounds of VENOM, MIDNIGHT and later DARKTHRONE, expertly folding these riff expressions back in to the irresistibly dysfunctional bop of GBH and CRUCIFIX. Anyone who chucks this thing on is going to feel like the passenger in a car crash waiting to happen. Razor's edge lead breaks serve only to increase the tension. Our driver careens wildly across both sides of the highway, regularly steering us toward the familiar influences of SKITKIDS, THE PARTISANS, DISARM, THE VARUKERS, TOTALITÄR and AUKTION before quickly engaging the hand-brake once again to speed off at 90 degrees in the direction of the unfinished overpass at the edge of town. Due to the up-scaled take on Swedish HC and the (now boosted) thump of the kick drum and bass guitar on SAVAGE VISIONS, this record feels like DISFEAR's Live The Storm played significantly faster. Minimal respect is afforded to genre convention. The way it should be - every band, every time. You may very well survive the maze, but what will you become by the time you reach its exit?

LIFE SCARS - Pęknięte Serca LP

LIFE SCARS - Pęknięte Serca LP

A bit late but finally I have a few copies here. There is a certain melancholy in the music of LIFE SCARS that speaks of tenderness and confidence. The beauty of the rebellion and the clarity of the critique are empowering in the face of a dying world. Originally founded in 2008 and based in the most eastern part of Poland, LIFE SCARS became one of the most active and consistent bands in the polish DIY Punkscene.

FAMILLE D'ACCUEIL - s/t. LP

FAMILLE D'ACCUEIL - s/t. LP

FAMILLE D'ACCUEIL plays fast and energetic punk, with melody, anger and thrashy guitar. Le FAMILLE D'ACCUEIL is based in Paris, France, yet the lyrics are written and sung in Polish due to singer Magda is originally from Poland and sang in Czosnek, for those who remember that amazing Band from Nowy Targ? FAMILLE D'ACCUEIL's sound mingles with Polish and French hardcore punk and creates a pretty energetic Beast that is a joy to see Live and I can strongly recommend to go see them whenever you have the chance! Fantastic people dedicated to the DIY spirit of Punk! Lyrics deal with oppression, longing for freedom, animal rights, fascist states – an everyday life in Europe you may say.

HOPE? - Your Perception Is Not My Reality ? 7

HOPE? - Your Perception Is Not My Reality ? 7"

Debut 7" of Portland crust in the 90s tradition. In a time of nihilistic hardcore and intentionally non-sequential garage rock it is refreshing to find punk that hues to a political core. HOPE? echoes the anger and aspirations of the political punk of years past, but channels their rage and demand for recognition into messages that are present and necessary today. As the world crumbles around us we need bands like HOPE? to reinforce our small communities; raise out fists, dance, and shout our communal yearning, rejection, and solidarity.

HELLKRUSHER - Doomsday Hour LP (EOP Version)

HELLKRUSHER - Doomsday Hour LP (EOP Version)

After a few years of silence & tons of lineup changes - not to mention the cancelled tour with Hiatus - Hellkrusher are back. It took them long to do this LP, but it was worth waiting. Their most powerful & best recordings so far. The best comparison are a bastard of Varukers & Discharge with buzzsaw guitars & pounding drums & aggressive shouted vocals!

EX-DOM – En La Mira LP

EX-DOM – En La Mira LP

Ex-Dom from Bremen come back with a new album. After two demos, it's finally time for a studio album and six brand new songs and three re-recorded. The new songs might move a tiny bit away from the "Deutschpunk de Colombia" metaphor but still "in your face" and the "Uffta Uffta Seal" ist just called "Tuppa Tuppa Sello" now... Genre insiders will understand!
