Brand new album by these Italian Masters of Crust and Stenchcore. I only found a valid description in Italian which I think is pretty fitting for this release. Cancer Spreading, now established exponents of the European stench/crust/death metal current, have always embodied this philosophy in a tangible way. Starting out as faithful disciples of the historical British current led by bands such as Deviated Instinct, Doom, Extinction Of Mankind or very early Bolt Thrower, with time the Italian lineup has 'refined' and further metallized its sound, incorporating more prominent death and sludge cues, conveying yes the usual raw and primitive energy, but also managing at some junctures to express a slightly more pronounced emotionality and atmospheric mood, as if to explore more carefully the darkness of society.

In this sense, the new "Deeper Down Once Again" is probably the most complete work in the band's discography, as some of the mid tempo tracks on the tracklist - see "Dying Martyrs," for example - present a compositional and production approach more focused toward the search for new sonic potential. Even when cutting to the chase, one then notices how Cancer Spreading have broadened their spectrum of solutions: indeed, it is not difficult to come across riffs or cadences reminiscent of Entombed or Coffins in their more viscous moments. Accomplice also to a rather short duration, "Deeper..." thus proves to be a particularly centered and engaging album, where music - wanting to focus also on the purely conceptual aspect of the work - becomes a means to express and share a deep sense of dissent.
