ÖTZI - Gong Show 7" (IMPORT)

LWR001

ÖTZI - Gong Show 7
Zoom image

This Oakland trio puts forth a powerful goth/post-punk sound that listens like a guiding light in a dark dream. "gong show" is the slightly more fuzzy and upbeat of the 2, while "sunbeam" is a more morose reliving of bad memories. Both songs are well-crafted, with the two main vocalists trading off and interweaving their distinctive voices with each other and the rest of the music in majestic and captivating ways. "juju"-era SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES, along with elements of the CHAMELEONS, are decent starting points, but these songs are truly ÖTZI's own creations.

KHIIS - Bezoar LP

KHIIS - Bezoar LP

Oakland's KHIIS, on this, their first full-length record, unleash a torrent of killer riffs, building songs of purpose and power, absent of the chaos and noise that engulfs many modern hardcore records. While such noise obviously has its place in the canon of punk and its raw machinations, KHIIS know they don't need the obscurant balm of feedback, they stand clear and robust, simply put: they've just got the fuckin riffs. Similarly the vocals are declamatory and forthright, not wild ghosts of delay and reverb, determined attacks, stark in their fury. KHIIS charge mightily through nine striking tracks of thick, full-blooded hardcore punk, taking no prisoners. (Joe Briggs)

TORSO - Build And Break 7

TORSO - Build And Break 7" (IMPORT)

Torso is armed with a powerful punk and hardcore sound with influences as geographically diverse as its members. Lyrically, Torso does not rely on any of the hardcore cliches or spew overly simplistic lyrics that carry no real meaning. Instead, the band tackles issues of veganism, politics, mental health, displacement, and feminism at a time when the world needs it the most.

PANDEMIX - In Condemnation LP

PANDEMIX - In Condemnation LP

PANDEMIX are rightly regarded as one of the best US underground punk bands out there right now. Their debut album “SCALE MODELS OF ATROCITIES” received great critical acclaim, and highlighted how PANDEMIX had a knack of making unique, thought provoking punk that was innovative as well as powerful and engaging. “IN CONDEMNATION” is the follow up second album, but this shows a band not resting on their laurels, but developing and pushing their agenda further.
