REMAINS OF THE DAY - Hanging On Rebellion LP

Originally released in 2003, Remains Of The Day followed up “An Underlying Frequency” with ‘Hanging on Rebellion.” Where their previous effort was despairing landscapes of dereliction, interspersed with moments of hope, ‘Hanging on Rebellion” focuses on that desperate, frantic hope; the melody is heightened, the pace is quickened, the violin ever present yet out of reach in waves of heavy reverb over far more melodic post punk inspired guitars, howling screams and low growls and the very prominent pummelling d beat. It is this juxtaposition of almost etherial and intricately delicate melodies and the underlying crushing crust hardcore that is so evocative. Remains of the day perfectly captured the sound of an abandoned world of forgotten things; of expanses of pylons and withered trees, of cities lost to nature. Together with the likes of His Hero Is Gone. Madame Germen, Ekkaia and Tragedy, they would inspire a decade of epic, emotive crust. New Artwork by Alex CF.

Another classic title from the german hardcore / punk history now for the first time officially reissued. The recordings were remastered by Archie Alert (Guitar, now in TERRORGRUPPE). Cover and Lyricsheet has also been reworked by Howie (Singer).

PRO PATRIA MORI - Where Shadows Lie LP

PRO PATRIA MORI - Where Shadows Lie LP

Pro Patria Mori, meaning "to die for your country", formed in Wokingham, Southeast of England in 1984. Though they never released any records, not even a track on a compilation but they did record two demos of which Where Shadows Lie is the second. Recorded and released in 1986, the demo is a total jewel of that era. It’s aggressive and fast paced anarcho punk with dual vocals, spoken word pieces, eerie interludes and dark political lyrics. The band were offered a release on Peaceville Records which never happened and played lots of gigs with Anti Sect and toured Italy playing a two day festival at the Virus in Milan. This release comes with a A3 Lyric Sheet plus a 44 Page Booklet with interviews, handouts, Fanzine pieces, reviews and more. If you yearn for the glory days of the 80’s and Anti Sect, Anti System and AOA - then this is a must. Demo Tapes have put their heart and soul into this release.

NO DEFENCES - Released LP

NO DEFENCES - Released LP

Recorded in 1985 for Crass Records but never released, Demo Tapes do the decent thing and release this five track lost album by five piece band No Defences. The album was recorded at Southern Studios with Pete Wright producing, but it was never completed. This album has been painstakingly put together and remastered from tapes taken from the studio at the time. Their sound was anything but anarcho punk - it had a strong tribal element in the rhythm section, post punk flourishes in the guitar work and lyrics that were poetic, individual and radical. The songs were often long with multiple timing changes but always with an intensity and passion. No Defences, part of the South London squat scene, played gigs with everyone at the time from Crass to Flux of Pink Indians to Crucifix and toured with Chumbawamba and Reality Control but sounding like none of these bands. No Defences were a special band and after years and years of trying to release this album, Demo Tapes are proud to release Released 32 years after it was recorded. It comes with a full size full colour booklet with photos, lyrics, archive and a full list of every gig No Defences played.
