THE ESTRANGED - The Subliminal Man. LP |
|
| |
Past and present members of Portland hardcore mainstays such as Remains Of The Day, Hellshock, Warcry, Lebenden Toten, etc Pull a 180 and dish out ten tracks of icy, ominous postpunk. Since their last release, The Estranged have dialed back the explicit aggression of their early singles a bit, and dialed up the textured, atmospheric, layered sounds of prime 80s deathrock/postpunk. A little less US influence, a little more UK..."The Subliminal Man" was painstakingly, impeccably recorded at Type Foundry Studios in Portland and features 8 new ones, a re-recording of "Statue In A Room" (originally released as a split 7" with Autistic Youth) and a rather stunning cover of The Flys 1978 classic "Love And A Molotov Cocktail". You need this. |

GERIATRIC UNIT - Audit Of Enemies LP. (Col.Vinyl!) |
|
| |
The UK Hardcore punk powerhouse GERIATRIC UNIT is back with their fifth album “AUDIT OF ENEMIES”. Clocking in at 26 minutes, this is actually by far the longest GERIATRIC UNIT release to date, and sees these masters of no-nonsense hardcore punk at their finest, and its easy to argue that “Audit Of Enemies” is their most progressive and complete release to date. Featuring ex-members of hardcore royalty (HERESY, HARD TO SWALLOW and IRON MONKEY amongst many others) this back to basics no nonsense approach is only available the way hardcore punk was meant to be heard – on vinyl! There is no CD version or download version available of this album, so the only way at present to hear this is on vinyl!!

A/POLITICAL - The greatest working Crass Rip off. LP + BOOK |
|
| |
The Wait is over: this long overdue discography album finally see´s the light of day. A//Political was very active during the mid to late 90s. Their style is similar to that of many "peace punk" bands from the early 1980s and was heavily influenced by anarcho-punk bands like Crass and Conflict. Members were involved in the Crasshole Collective and the Anarcho-Punk Federation (A.P.F.). Many members were in other local punk bands such as Coexist, Flag Fallen and U.S. War Commission. Stas (Vocals) also sang for Boston area anarcho-punk band, Krema-1. This album contains all re-mastered versions of the "Propaganda By Deed" 7", "Punk Is A Ghetto" 7", Split 7" with COUNTERPOISE, "Not In The Name Of Science" Compilation 7" and 6 UNRELEASED tracks! CD Version Includes: Bonus Tracks From The "Planting The Seeds Of Revolution" Demo Cassette Tape. Both CD & Vinyl come with a 60 page book that includes the entire history of A//POLITICAL and the CRASSHOLE collective. Filled with old interviews, flyers, communiques, lyrics, pictures and much more! |

CONTAGIUM - Archaic. LP |
|
| |
"Grinding CRUST from Halifax in the vain of early UK crust/stenchcore not unlike DEVIATED INSTINCT and AXEGRINDER. Dar, Heavy and Crushing." - says the infos and i can´t say it better. Comes in a heavy sleeve with bold black ink on white cardboard... artwork reminds a bit of PUSMORTs "Cleanse the Bacteria" LP if you ask me but this is no downer at all. - Note: Comes in colored Splatter Vinyl, limited to 500 and we don´t have many of these. Sleeve corners are a little bit battered from the shipping but still in good condition. |

INTRO5PECT - Real Politik. LP |
|
| |
This is an interesting band ... Vinyl release of this U.S. bands second album, with two bonus tracks. A highly original blend of techno with melodic anarcho-punk/hardcore, with guest vocal appearances from Stza (Leftover Crack). - "Intro5pect is back and ready to fight! Their relentless energy, sing-along choruses, and rampant plundering of musical genres have been honed to an even sharper point since we last heard from them four years ago. Their unique combination of punk, electronic, and Super Mario-thrash back their biting socio-political commentary on this 7 song EP. Members of Leftover Crack are featured on several tracks to help “Realpolitik” serve as a soundtrack to insurrection." (Review) |

EUTHANASIE - Prison Pain. LP |
|
| |
EUTHANASIE was an late 80ties german anarcho punk band from the south german area around Freiburg that got almost forgotten due the fact that they never released anything except their 1989 Demo cassette and two compilation tracks. - This LP features said Demo plus compilation tracks as well as a very good Live recording from the "woodrock" festival. Remastered and polished you get 8 tracks of Melodic and distinctive anarcho punk with german and english lyrics. This is a GERMAN PUNK CLASSIC that was unknown for too long. Highly Recommended.

Debut full lengh of this dutch/scottish side project of current and ex FLEAS AND LICE and MAKILADORAS members. 10 tiimes pure metalized demon punk that has a huge SLAYER fee and a very evil and twisted aura. Heavy and solid production still manages to rip the hell out of your stereo. This is really massive and brutal sonic terror. - Only a few copies available.

EXTREME NOISE ERROR - Demo. LP |
|
| |
In 1988 before FLEAS & LICE and MUSHROOM ATTACK there was E.N.E., ironically EXTREME NOISE ERROR as a (friendly) pisstake to E.N.T. (Extreme Noise Terror) - musically they paid homage to the era of late 80´ties Crustcore just like DOOM and ENT, a raw noise of angry shredding voices of roaring guitars and pummeling drums... - ENE where basically a Dutch SORE THROAT with humor but still a serious message to come through. This 12" feat 32 songs including their 1988 Demo, Rehearsals and Live stuff... comes with the original booklet of their demo and is for collectors only... expect some raw noise to be played loud! really loud!!!
Only a few copies here... if they are gone, they are gone. |

HELLBASTARD - Heading for internal Darkness. LP |
|
| |
Available 11th August: Finally this masterpiece got repressed! Heavily inspired by Amebix, and their crusty punk ambitions, Hellbastard also rose form England loaded with chunky guitar riffs and anarchist political views very much in place. When this album was issued, punk bible Maximum Rock N Roll described it as "Crass meets Metallica," - huhu. Founding fathers of the TM "crust" they went pretty quickly in the more-metal direction. "Heading For Internal Darkness" marks the crossroads, a brutal bastard of both worlds - cool to see it repressed now with "Deadlock" from the "They brought death" Ep. |

ANAEROBA -Over the Walls and Borders. LP |
|
| |
Available 11th August: The second album by this killer band from Slovenia! The music itself is fantastic with a crusty sound that reminds a lot of scottish Anarcho/crust bands like Scatha, Sedition and Constant Fear
Anaeroba have a great sound that is kinda of 10 years behind the sound of crust today which seems to be all the slowed down epic build ups and this is great as it is playing stuff that we love but it is only played by bands that seem not to exist anymore. Real kinda filthy Crust that seems to take the best parts of the best bands and mash it into their sound. Artwork done by Stiv. Tis great stuff and well worth checking out. |

APPALACHIAN TERROR UNIT - Greenwashing. LP |
|
| |
Restock - Available 11th August: The long-anticipated full length LP from West Virginia mountain punks APPALACHIAN TERROR UNIT is upon us. Nine raging tracks of angry crust punk with crushing riffs and (mainly) female vocals. They have shed one guitar player since their EP, making for a much more raw and organic sounds (more rock and less thrash). Both musically and lyrically the best comparison I can conjure up is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath meets NAUSEA´s Extinction LP (original mix). One of the most raw and intense musical experiences Profane Existence has released in a long time and a fitting finalé for Profane Existence Records. Includes all new cover art by Marald and a 16 page booklet inside. |

Available 11th August: Fredag den 13:e was formed in Göteborg in 2006. Musically the band is aiming to combine both the power of scandicrust with the rock n´ roll feel of Poison Idea and Motörhead. The result has been desrcibed as sing-a-long d-beat hardcore, which isn´t far from the truth. |

Available 11th August: Moral Dilemma is Anarchopunk as fuck. From their squat scene roots, through to their DIY approach and politically conscious lyrics and beliefs, they can tick the boxes in terms of punk rock authenticity.
Moral Dilemma have created a second album they should be very happy with. There are too many crap fast-paced punk bands out there, and it´s a relief to hear an album like ´Agree To Disagree´ that shows a band that´s honest and genuine in their attempt to assault your ears. |

WAR/PLAGUE - Smolder. 7" |
|
| |
from PE Wesbite: " The debut 7" from a new crust band built around the guitar heroes Andy Lutz and Andy Lefton (the potent combo at the core of Provoked and Pontius Pilate) joined by fellow Minneapolis crust punk veterans. The two songs on this debut EP are classic crust punk to the core, with lots of variation, powerful riffs, rasp throated vocals, and production that´s heavy but not overly polished. This is Minneapolis style crust (i.e. Misery) so its devoid of the boring "epic" parts that sap the energy of so many other current crust bands. Best of all, the members of War//Plague are among the most artistically gifted and long-time contributors to the local DIY punk movement. We especially love when good people put out good music. You can preview and MP3 or two at their WEBSITE if you dont trust our description." |

A mixture of Skitsystem, meets a dash of black metal and dare I say it, the epicness of Tragedy. It has the aggression and power mixed with musical prowess that brings the music above the common. The sound is so big that you feel enveloped in the energy. |

Available 11th August: The wait was long, but now it´s ready! A dignified follow-up of their first album! An intense Dolp from this dark crust band from Gothenburg.
I haven´t really enough words to describe this brutal yet twisted attack on my eardrums. Eight songs in just over 72 minutes(!) of death and blackmetal gloom with a healthy dose of crust punk influences leaving me speechless.
The Double Lp comes in a beautiful gatefold with a foldout insert. CD version is being released in US by Profane Existence and should be available in the next update here as well. If you have the chance to see them on their US-West coast tour go ahead!! |

ASS - Sink. MCD |
|
| |
Available 11th August: Five new tracks from the the snottiest DIY punk band in Minneapolis, whose message screams to be proud to be different, proud to Queer and be proud of non-conformist. Musically they play raw punk rock that would have fit in well with early 90´s East Bay bands such as BLATZ and FILTH, playing rousing scream-along anthems. Four of the songs are originals, while the final song is an appropriate cover of FAGGATRON´s classic Ass-Kick-a-Tron. ASS have been active in the Minneapolis punk scene for the past several years and active in the local homocore movement. |

BURNT CROSS / A.U.K. - The Earth Dies Screaming. Split CD |
|
| |
Two UK bands, that capture the spirit of anarcho punk and strive to live a life celebrating the fundamental deals of what it is about. BURNT CROSS’S tracks are from their 3rd, 4th and 5th 7”s that are vibrant, uplifting and full of energy. Good song structures that will have you singing, dancing and shaking your angry fists in the air. A.U.K. contains former members of that old band the ALTERNATIVE, who had records out on Crass records. Like BURNT CROSS they are two brothers and both bands complement each other so well. 7 of their songs are upbeat, with plenty of punch in their catchy punk rock mayhem. But it is the last two songs of theirs that has captured my attention the most. ‘The Earth Dies Screaming’ and ‘In My Eyes’ are slower, darker and sombre in their musical approach. Kind of akin to THE MOB and KILLING JOKE, and have a real deep affect on me. A last cry for help because nothing else matters. No world, no us. This is an excellent CD." (Profane Existence) |

BERURIER NOIR - Meme pas mort 2 x DVD + CD |
|
| |
DVD 1: comes with a perfect recorded Live Video of their massive 3 day farewell concert in Paris 1989... 60 minutes of a blistering fire spitting live spectacle of full force agit punk rock...amazing!!! also interviews from 2003, Radio Beru, Catharsis: 83 - 2003,Live, Demos... plus massive extras. - DVD 2 has Photos, Pictures, Karaoke Versions of BxN tracks (pretty dodgy...dude!) Clips, Making of´s... plus more live Video clips. The CD entitled "Bloody Party" is a compilation of various Live and Sudio cuts from 83 - 2003.... This is an excellent package of french punk rock history.
Bérurier Noir is a French punk band formed in 1983. They called themselves "noir" (black) for the color of mourning (because their first concert was planned to be also their last) and for anarchy and "Bérurier" after the character from the novels of Frédéric Dard. Instead of being an end, the success of their first show inspired them to continue. Bérurier Noir´s music was clearly derived from British punk rock as far music and lyrics were concerned. Most of their songs were short, aggressive and usually based on a couple of basic power chords. Their lyrics reflected the typical concerns of punks: rejection of consumerism, politics, traditional social order and the anger felt by disaffected youth, tramps and outsiders in general. On the other, they added some interesting innovations. Their rhythm section consisted of a cheap drum machine, which became an essential and arguably endearing part of their sound. The frequent use of a saxophone as of the mid-eighties also set them apart from most other punk rock bands. - They would regularly appear on record sleeves and on stage wearing clown outfits, mock police uniform or pig´s masks. Their shows were a unique and highly festive cross between a punk rock concert, a grotesque circus and an anarchist rally. (Wikipedia) |

VON MAUERN UND FAVELAS / Polizeigewalt in Rio de Janeiro. DVD |
|
| |
"Ich sah Körper in einer Decke gewickelt. Daraus tropfte Blut.
Dokumentation, 60 Minuten, OmU, Brasilien/Deutschland 2005 +++ Regie: Susanne Dzeik, Kirsten Wagenschein, Marcio Jeronimo

MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL - No.328 / September / October 2010
|
|
| |
MRR #328 has hit the newsstands! This month we have an interview with Roger and Vinnie of AGNOSTIC FRONT, the last interview by Mr. Bruce Roehrs (RIP), from his all time favorite hardcore band. The PUFFY AREOLAS are continuing Ohio’s fine tradition of musical mutation, whilst SUPER WILD HORSES from Australia have been described as FLIPPER trying to play the SHOP ASSISTANTS, and we have some politically charged, female-fronted new wave from Macedonia courtesy of BERNAYS PROPAGANDA, which features ex-members of FPO. RAPE REVENGE from Canada is a mostly female, mostly power violence band, and DEATHRATS from DC are part of a crew of bands who are making sure hardcore stays harDCore in a most thrilling manner. Boston’s CONVERSIONS played driving complex punk inflected hardcore with some of the most ferocious female vocals. There are scene reports from New York City, and Brno in the Czech Republic, supposed to be one of the best places to play when touring Europe. We have cover art by Welly of long-running UK zine Artcore, and as always, the most extensive review section in punk, and all your favorite columnists!
*This issue mistakenly got labeled as the October issue when it shoulda been September. Don’t worry, the real October issue will come out as scheduled, and subscribers will get 12 issues this year. We apologize for the confusion.

MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL - No.326 / July 2010
|
|
| |
The July 2010 issue of Maximum Rocknroll is here! This month we have some killer cover art courtesy of Avi Spivak of Humanbeing Lawnmower zine… And a delightful selection of content to match, starting off with U-Ron of REALLY RED, who offers a different perspective to the controversial interview with his former band mate John Paul in MRR #323. Japanese hardcore destruction comes courtesy of SLANG, alongside the definitive Scottish crust of SEDITION. Australia’s CIRCLE PIT provides some dirty punk, London England’s TRASH KIT brings to mind the post-punk energy of bands like New Age Steppers, Rip Ring and Panic; San Francisco’s HIGH CASTLE plays ragged, noisy, art inflected punk rock, plus we got some East Bay punk weirdness courtesy of STREET EATERS. MARCEL DUCHAMP from Chile plays politically charged and very raging hardcore, but we also got some brutal grind inflected hardcore represented by Florida’s own MEHKAGO NT, the long running and much loved RANDOM CONFLICT straight outta Alabama, and yet more twisted Midwestern hardcore from Michigan’s BUNNY SKULLS. We got scene reports from Calgary Canada and New Orleans, plus all our usual columnists, and the most comprehensive review section in punk, punk! |

|
|
| |
It’s time for another issue of MRR! Numero 325, the June 2010 issue, features interviews with San Francisco garage punk TY SEGALL, plus we got Hungarian hardcore courtesy of RÁKOSI, and heavy noise wildness from Canada’s NÜ SENSAE. From England we have the WANKYS, who are aiming for a sound closer to CONFUSE or GAI than anything outta their homeland, and we have LOTUS FUCKER, who are also drawing from that Japanese hardcore sound with some added East Coast crust brutality, plus some heavy yet nuanced crust courtesy of MORNE from Massachusetts, and New York’s POLLUTION adding further mutations to the idea of what hardcore is. Chicago’s DAYLIGHT ROBBERY evoke the darkness of the WIPERS with the best male/female vocal trade offs we’ve heard in a long while. We have classic, genre defining Australian punk with X, just prior to their first ever US tour, some off kilter 1980s West Virginian hardcore from TH’INBRED, and the BAD SPORTS demonstrating some early punk influences filtered though a Texan lens.
